A visually descriptive 30 minute program portraying Broome, a spectacular destination, situated in the Northwest coast of Western Australia.

A tropical resort town, founded initially in 1883, is an incredibly wild and beautiful corner of Western Australia.

Broome was once the prosperous and bustling centre of the pearling industry. Broome stands on Roebuck Bay and is still a pearling town but not in the scale of years gone by.

In its hey day, there were some 350 pearling luggers employing 3,000 men working out of Broome.

Divers went to depths of 27 meters and this resulted in many deaths. There was a predominant amount of Japanese divers and the Japanese Cemetery shows how they suffered.

There are many signs of the Pearling background of Broome, with abandoned Luggers and Museums.

We take you to Gantheaume Point, where dinosaurs tracks are embedded in sandstone at the base of the cliffs and it is commonly believed they lived 130 million years ago. The tracks are visible only at a low spring tide.

The essence of this destination is captured at Cable Beach, where the sands seem to go on forever and at certain times of the year, the moon creates a stairway to heaven, a spectacular sight captured by our cameras.

We bring the unique Sun Picture Theatre in the heart of Broome, an open air Picture Theatre and the Bird Observatory set amongst the mangroves where an abundance of Birdlife revel in the peaceful and tranquil setting.

Containing so much history and beauty, this program is a must see in the scheme of the Panorama Australia series of programs and is the first of the Town programs of Australia.
